500–1000 MWPower Curve DeclineYaw System
Yaw Sensor Misalignment Behind Long-Term Power Loss
Issue
The turbine exhibited a steady decline in power curve performance over an extended period, diverging from both its historical trend and neighboring units. Despite stable wind and operational conditions, energy output remained below expectations, indicating a hidden alignment problem.
Action
Kavaken’s analysis revealed that the wind direction and nacelle orientation sensors were misaligned, causing a static yaw error. The maintenance team recalibrated the sensors, aligning both the primary and backup systems. After correction, the turbine’s power curve returned to expected levels, confirming the resolution of the issue.
Impact
400 MWh production increase
