Bearing Misalignment Found Weeks Before CMS Alarm

Issue

Abnormal behavior was detected in the generator non-drive-end bearing temperature trend. Possible root causes included reduced coolant level, lubrication contamination, malfunctioning in the auto-lubrication system, mechanical looseness, shaft misalignment, or blockage in the lubrication flow.

Action

Kavaken first detected a consistent temperature rise in the generator bearing, prompting the client to schedule inspection and alignment checks.

The first inspection revealed no obvious cause, but as the anomaly persisted, the CMS alarm later confirmed the same issue. The service team then performed a generator alignment, which immediately stabilized the temperatures. The issue was closed, with the client noting that Kavaken had identified the problem weeks ahead of the CMS system.

Impact

260 MWh production loss prevented
