Airflow Restriction Behind Generator Bearing Overheating
Issue
Abnormal behavior was detected in the generator non-drive-end bearing temperature. Possible root causes included reduced coolant level due to leakage, oil greaser contamination, malfunctioning in the auto-lubrication mechanism, mechanical looseness, shaft misalignment, shaft unbalance, and potential blockage or malfunction in the cooling and lubrication system.
Action
A persistent upward trend in bearing temperature prompted further inspection of the lubrication and cooling systems.
The site team carried out detailed checks on the front and rear bearings and cleaned the generator ducts to restore airflow. The temperature readings dropped immediately after the intervention, confirming that the overheating was caused by restricted ventilation rather than mechanical wear.
Impact
1,090 MWh production loss prevented
